Why don't we popularise ACM ICPC, Google CodeJam, Microsoft ImagineCup, RedHat's Lord of the Code, Topcoder's SRM's, etc.?

Why don't these "great BCS alumni" that I hear about really talk of the big league where the real fun happens?

Somehow, I felt hurt during my days as a student that every "expert" or "alumni" only promoted a contest that he himself (or she hersel) was good at. It's time we take ourselves out of the picture and promote what's best for students.

I would appreciate seeing some blog entry dedicated to various contests and opportunities where students can get exposure to the world and prove themselves. And when I say contests, I say contests that matter.

Now I'm not saying CSI contests are bad, but they have their own criteria. Every student is good or bad at different things. We should give them a plethora of contests to compete in so they can figure out what they do best.
